Ivanhoe Atlantic strengthens U.S. focused Board

  • Ambassador (Ret.) Troy Fitrell joins as a Non-Executive Director at a pivotal time for Ivanhoe Atlantic
  • The Company’s portfolio of mining interests is led by its flagship ultra-high grade iron ore project Kon Kweni which is approaching final permitting in Guinea

Ivanhoe Atlantic Inc. (“Ivanhoe Atlantic” or the “Company”), U.S. mining and strategic minerals company, is pleased to announce the appointment of former U.S. Ambassador Troy Fitrell as a Non-Executive Director effective immediately. The appointment reinforces American leadership as the Company prepares for construction at its flagship Kon Kweni ultra-high grade iron ore project in Guinea.

Ambassador Troy Fitrell, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, class of Minister Counselor, was most recently in 2025 the Senior Bureau Official leading the Department of State’s Bureau of African Affairs. Prior to this post, he served as United States Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea from 2022 to 2025.

Ambassador (Ret.) J. Peter Pham, Executive Chairman of Ivanhoe Atlantic Inc., welcomed Amb. Fitrell saying: “I have worked closely with Ambassador Fitrell in a number of different capacities over the years and know first-hand that he understands both the enormous opportunity Africa presents in the global economy and the importance of sustained American commercial leadership across the continent. He played a key role in developing the U.S. Commercial Diplomacy Strategy for Africa in the Trump Administration. His deep relationships, regional knowledge and strategic experience will support Ivanhoe Atlantic’s efforts to develop responsible projects, strengthen U.S.-Africa economic ties and create secure, diversified supply chains for the American industrial base.”

The appointment comes at a significant time for Ivanhoe Atlantic as the Company continues to strengthen its position as a premier American investment platform in Africa, focused on developing strategic resources aligned with U.S. national security policy. Ambassador Fitrell joins two former U.S. Ambassadors to Guinea, Patricia Moller and Tibor Nagy, who serve on the board of the Ivanhoe Atlantic’s Guinean subsidiary, Société des Mines de Fer de Guinée (SMFG).

Commenting on this appointment, Ambassador Fitrell said: “Having led U.S. diplomatic and commercial policy across the continent, I have seen how vital strategic American investment is to secure, transparent critical mineral supply chains. Africa sits at the epicenter of the global energy and industrial transition and Ivanhoe Atlantic represents the very best of American commercial leadership, combining high-standard development with strong sovereign partnerships. While my background brings deep familiarity with Guinea and the immense promise of the Kon Kweni project, I look forward to supporting the Board in advancing Ivanhoe Atlantic’s broader mission to strengthen U.S.-Africa economic ties and bolster industrial supply security.”
