Liberty Corridor
The planned development model for the Liberty Corridor is a public/private partnership, bringing together a consortium of mining companies, international development finance institutions and infrastructure operators with the Government of Liberia to finance, build and operate this multi-user infrastructure corridor.
The Liberty Corridor will comprise a brand-new world-class rail system connecting Kon Kweni in Guinea to a newly constructed deep-water port at Didia, Liberia.
The Liberty Corridor will also include an extension of the existing hydropower network from Côte d’Ivoire into the Nimba districts of Liberia and Guinea, an upgrade of existing road networks to all-weather roads, and the implementation of fibre optic telecommunication cables connecting Liberia to the Nimba district and potentially beyond.
Our blueprint is The Lobito Corridor project successfully linking the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the Angolan coast.
St. John River iron ore project
As a key addition to our portfolio, the St. John River project marks a significant milestone in increasing Ivanhoe Atlantic’s operating footprint in Liberia, positioning us to become a leading operator in the region.
Previously owned by BHP and covering a combined area of almost 250 km2 adjacent to the existing Yekapa-Buchanan Rail Corridor, historical mapping work by United States Geological Survey (USGS) demonstrates significant showings of Banded Iron Formations with potential to hold >650 million tonnes of iron ore up to 58% Fe.
The strategic positioning of the properties along the proposed Liberty multi-user infrastructure corridor, based around the existing Yekapa – Buchanan rail line makes the St John River licenses key growth assets for Ivanhoe Atlantic.
