HPX Announces Key Leadership Appointments in Guinea

HPX is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Oumar Sylla as Directeur Général of Société des Mines de Fer de Guinée (SMFG), HPX’s 85%-owned Guinean subsidiary, effective immediately.

Mr. Sylla has been with SMFG since 2011 and has held various positions within the company, including serving as the Acting Directeur Général since early 2024. Most recently, Mr. Sylla has been the Lead Site Manager advancing HPX’s high-grade, long-life iron ore mining project in southeastern Guinea, overseeing all operational and development activities towards construction.

Mr. Sylla’s appointment reflects SMFG’s dedication to fostering internal local talent and offering employees significant opportunities for growth and advancement through into senior roles. Mr. Sylla’s deep understanding of both the company and HPX’s iron ore project positions him well to lead SMFG in achieving its strategic objectives.

In addition, HPX is delighted to announce that Mr. Robert (Bob) Adam has been nominated by HPX for the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors of SMFG. Mr. Adam brings a wealth of experience in the mining industry, with a strong background in African mining projects, particularly in Guinea, equipping him with the expertise and insight to excel in this crucial leadership position. Mr. Adam has been actively involved with SMFG and HPX’s iron ore project over the past three years.

HPX Chief Executive Officer Bronwyn Barnes commented:

“Oumar Sylla and Bob Adam will provide outstanding leadership as SMFG continues to advance our mission and pursue our goals in Guinea. Their combined experience and expertise will be invaluable as we navigate the next stages of our company’s development. We look forward to their leadership and vision as we continue to strengthen SMFG’s position in the mining industry.”
